VI. Criminal Law

This chapter will provide you a good background into the criminal process in Canada. The chapter explores what is a criminal; our basic rights under the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms; a layman's guide to some of the more common crimes in Canada; a discussion into some of the more popular defenses that lawyers use in pleading the innocence of their clients or attempting to get lesser sentences; and a review of sentencing and how the courts determine what sentences are suitable.
