V. Legal Processes

As you will see, Chapter Three and Chapter Four are "companion" chapters in that they go with each other. It is important to understand and use these companion chapters when we start Chapter Five: Criminal Law and Chapter Six: Law of Torts.

Chapter Four takes you through the steps in gaining an understanding of the legal processes in today's courts. This chapter explores everything from the laying of the information to arraignment to trial to sentencing or final disposition.

Our legal process has been designed to ensure a fair and impartial trial for either criminal or civil matters. It is important to understand this process and the various steps along the way to a final judgement or settlement of the matter. During this process, many of the key people discussed in Chapter 3: People, interact with each other.
